Cherokee Rose Sporting Resort--Georgia

By John Steinhorst
Page 8 of the November 2004 issue

Cherokee Rose Sporting Resort is conveniently located just 35 miles south of downtown Atlanta in Griffin, Georgia, and offers unique, convenient shooting entertainment for the whole family or large groups. Cherokee Rose has a state-of-the-art, fully automated sporting clays course set among towering pines and magnificent old hardwoods that offer constant-changing scenery throughout the year. The hilly and scenic 40-acre course can be easily traversed on foot, golf cart, or ATV.

The 12-station sporting course presents exciting targets for all individuals, from novice to Master-class shooters, with recreational or competitive menus. One distinct station features a three-level platform that creates challenging shots into a deep ravine. Two 5-Stands present a wide variety of targets for warm-up, practice, or well-lit evening shooting. The arena 5-Stand is situated in the aesthetically landscaped main area, and another is completely covered to keep the guns firing rain or shine. The well-maintained skeet and trap fields are also situated in the lighted main area. A dove tower launches overhead targets and left-to-right crossers for an excellent opportunity to sharpen skills before bird hunting season begins.

All target presentations are skillfully set by club managers NSCA All-Americans Bill McGuire and Casey Atkinson, who also give shooting lessons with various renowned instructors throughout the year. The club is capable of hosting large groups for tournaments such as the Peach State Classic, Ducks Unlimited Fun Shoot, and the nationally televised Star Shoot. The pavilion provides a covered area that will accommodate more than 100 people for corporate or social catered events, with indoor seating at the restaurant as well. Other area activities include hunting at nearby Red Oak Plantation and freshwater fishing at Lake Jackson. Cherokee Rose, 895 Baptist Camp Rd., Dept. SC, Griffin, GA 30223; (770) 227-6569.
