Cedar Creek Sporting Clays—New Jersey
By John Steinhorst Page 8 of the November 2009 issue
Set in the heart of South Jersey’s pine lands, Cedar Creek Sporting Clays’ fully automated 100-bird course winds through 75 acres of pine trees, dogwood, laurels, and open fields. Each of its 16 stations has two unique target presentations, “A” cages set for recreational shooters and “B” cages for those who want serious practice with tournament-type targets. Most stations feature three traps, and presentations are changed every other week. Golf carts are available for cruising the course in comfort. Shooters can also work out on their own private Wendell Cherry grid. Two separate practice areas are set up in the FITASC fields—one with right and left crossers and one with a screaming teal and chandelle. Shooters must break 10 in a row from 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards. Shooting lessons and competition coaching are available year round with owner and course designer Joseph P. Scull Sr., an NSCA-certified instructor. Whether it is a simple crosser from the bi-level tower on station five or a battue rocketing off a 30-ft. lift, Scull takes pride in creating hittable but unexpected targets. Several nationally known instructors come to Cedar Creek during the year to hold special classes and clinics, including Cherry, Mike McAlpine, John Woolley, and Anthony Matarese Jr. The family friendly club is open to the public all year on Wed. and Fri.-Sun. Memberships are available for volume shooters who wish to shoot at a discount. The clubhouse welcomes shooters to relax with a cup of coffee and donuts after a day on the course and offers a conference room for meetings, lectures, and corporate events. Cedar Creek is conveniently located a short drive from New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
