I purchased a used 101 and love it. But occasionally it will misfire?? i had a gunsmith look at it and told me he fired 25 right through it with no problem. I have heard there was some sort of "balance" in the firing pin? is this true? any Help before i lose trust in it?

thanks!

If I were you, the first thing I'd do is find another gunsmith.

In all likelyhood, there is gunk built up in the firing pin holes along with the rest of the action and it just needs a good cleaning and maintenance. The stock needs to be pulled, the firing pins, hammers and top lever removed, the entire action cleaned and gently lubed and new firing pin, hammer and top lever springs installed. All of this takes about an hour and $30 in parts. If you have the know-how and the mechanical skills, do it yourself. If not, find a competent gunsmith and pay him/her $100 and your gun will be good to go for another 10 years.

thanks, unfortunately no gunk, i had it professionally cleaned as well. An arms expert at a gun show told my dad that in that particular gun there is some sort of "level" that if you dont bring it up after closing action properly it might not fire...never heard of it. but it has misfired for me several times - the gunsmith couldnt find a problem

thanks anyway..

The "arms expert" at the gun show is spewing nonsense (as most of them do), there is no such requirement of any gun, much less the excellent Win101. If your Win101 was "professionally cleaned" by the same gunsmith that fired it 25 times and proclaimed it good, I'd be willing to bet it's still dirty. Did you have the firing pin and hammer springs replaced? This is also a part of normal maintenance.

Your gun, your choice, of course. But if it were me, I'd be looking for a competent gunsmith. It doesn't sound to me like you've found one.

Dose it do it with all different brands of ammo?
