Hello All,

I am new to trap shooting and am having a blast, although I think I need a new gun. First, I am quite tall (6'6") and think the gun I am shooting (Marlin 120 Magnum) is not the right fit. Second, about every 5th shoot, the gun either jams or I cannot get the shell out of the barrel/chamber. The gun was professionally serviced and the problem still has not been fixed.

I am a graduate student and money is very tight. Can anyone suggest a quality O/U that will get me through a few good years before I can upgrade? Don't need anything fancy, just something that will work and not foul-up! Thank you!

You might not want to hear this, but you should not be considering an O/U at all. A good, target-grade semi-auto such as a Beretta 391 would be a much better gun for you. Easier to shoot, it is also far easier to adjust to fit you. A target-grade O/U will run you at least 3x more initially and be far more expensive to fit than a semi-auto.

391 is your best option for sure. That's good advice. But if you're 6'6" then it may not fit you very well. I am 6'5" and while I believe the Urika to be the best semi out there, I could never buy one because they feel much too small for me.

You may or may not have the same impression.

An alternative may be to find a good used O/U off the rack at some gun shop, if you can find one that is fairly priced and in good shape. It may be the way to go and you may find a good used gun will last you much longer than the three years you wanting it for.

Even if you plan to use the gun for only a few years, I cannot encourage you enough to stay away from cheap guns. The track record of the vast majority of them is nothing short of crap.
