I just purchased a Beretta Xplor A400 and need to know who makes a shell cather for it. My girlfriend would like to try to shoot some trap but I need a shell catcher for it. I tried one of of my Urika 391 but it does not fit. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Easy fix - introduce your girlfriend to a real shooting sport instead of (gak!) trap. Isn't there a rule that you have to be an old, grumpy, fat guy to shoot trap? :)
Seriously, the Xplor has been out for like, what, two weeks? You aren't going to find accessories like shell catchers for it for some time. Until then, put a rubber band around the receiver across the front 1/3 of the ejection port. The shell won't come out and the bolt will lock back. You'll have plenty of access to reach inside and fish the empty out.

You are a brave man to buy a new platform shotgun on the first production run....especially for that price. Even if it is a Beretta. But if this gun can achieve similar levels of function reliability that the 391s enjoy, then I will certainly look to get my hands on one too.
Keep us updated on your observations with the gun. I hope it works as sweet as it looks.

I've already worked on a couple of them. They have some interesting aspects and others that I'm not very impressed with. It's basically a trimmed down Xtrema...in a nut shell. Maybe a little too trimmed down.
The Knock Off system, while a great idea seems underbuilt and is held on with flimsy T-15 headed wood screws that break easily. Woodcerts with machine screws would be a better idea.
I think it may be a great field gun, but I hope that there are going to be some improvements when they introduce the clays models.
Don't get me started on the trigger.

Tron,
I read that the Xplor is "built on hybrid platform that marries the essence of the Xtrema with the Benelli inertia system." Is that accurate? If so how does that work?

Plaz,
I would say that's a fairly accurate comparison. When you take the gun apart, you will notice similarities with both those designs right away. Kind of like a Benelli barrel that's been retro fitted to an Xtrema gas system and action....with a bit of 391 thrown in on the receiver end. The trigger looks pure Xtrema though....there's good and bad to that. It's tough, but rough. I can't see how they could do anything other than a redesign if they were going the target wrought.
The forearm is very very flimsy and it's crowned with a plastic vent and forend cap. I can't imagine it holding up (sort of reminds me of a Franchi in that aspect).
But, I think it's most similar to an Xtrema overall.
Just my observations.

I agree because Skeet shooters hate to miss. Sporting clays shootrts love to hit. And Tap shooters love to blame their misses on any thing but themselves. ;-)

Thanks Tron, for the break down. I'm interested in checking one out first hand soon. I'm in love with my Xtrema and X2 though. Can't imaging getting anything that's not put together as well as them at this point. Hopefully the Xplor is capable of keeping up the Beretta Semi Auto reputation, but initial feedback sounds a bit sketchy.

I got the chance to shoot trap with my new Beretta Xplor this afternoon. It is one awesome gun. I put 100 rounds through it and never had a single problem. I was very pleased with the results. I ended up scoring 89/100 which I thought was great seeing that it was the first time I had shot it. The kick off system is very nice. I look forward to shooting it again this weekend in trap and will probably shoot sporting clays next weekend with it. :)
