Hey all,

I have a few questions for you all regarding sporking clay choke tubes...First, is there a difference between sporting clay chokes and skeet chokes or are the basically the same thing? and also what does a sporting clay choke do, does it make the pattern tighter? and what are the pros and cons? thanks!

Any choke that gives you a dense 30" pattern at the precived distance of the tatget is the right choke. Skeet targets avereage 22yds. so skeet chokes do that. Sporting target can be anywhere between 20 and 50 yds. So the need for tighter chokes.

Cbrown2008, it appears that you have pretty basic questions about chokes in general. The choke on a shotgun works like the nozzle on a hose, and controls how fast the shot pattern spreads out. "Open" chokes, like cylinder, skeet and improved cylinder, let the shot spread out fast and are best for close targets. More "closed" chokes like modified and full restrict the spread of the shot and are better for far targets.

Skeet is a short-range game, and is shot with a open choke. The skeet choke was developed specifically for this game, although it works great for close shots in other games too. Sporting clays is shot at all ranges from 10 yards to 60 yards, and a selection of chokes to choose from depending on the presentation is a good idea. Even you can make it far too complicated, thinking of shots as close (0-35 yards, improved cylinder), medium (30-50 yards, modified) and far (45+ yards, full) works very well.

The chokes are the same in most cases. Now we offer a different set up for the skeet are in your face sporting clays. Most chokes the only thing that changes is the size. The skeet,LM will give bigger patterns at say 20 yards. You had a HM or full they would have a smaller pattern at that given distance.
