Beware when you choose a gunsmith - My mistake was Blue Steel Gunsmiths - Steve Parries from North Carolina. He said he was qualified to restore a Parker DHE 20 ga - instead he destroyed it. Everything was done wrong - from bluing to case color to receiver engraving - even the screws - BUT - most important the entire carving of the stock with unacceptable checkering and teardrops! The gun was wrong from one end to the other. He had the gun from Sept 2008 until April 2009. He will not refund my money or any part of it! Then, I could have the Parker restored properly. Any other questions or photos contact me. I'll have the Parker at the sxs shows for you to see for yourself. Beware of amateurs!

Did you research this gunsmith before you turned your gun over to him? Did you see examples of his work? Did you talk to his former customers? Did you have clear descriptions - in writing - of exactly what he was supposed to do to your gun?

Ive met more people who claim to be gunsmiths than real ones.I had a guy operating out of his house who couldnt assemble an 11-87,I took it out of his hands with the o rings and did it myself. Tragic and needless are words that come to mind.

Deadeye, I did not realize that there were so many people in California that are claiming to be gunsmiths!

Good ones sometimes are hard to find but usually their reputation keeps them in bussiness and is their best advertisement.

A gunsmith with a bad reputation won't be in bussiness long! Bad news always travels faster than good !

525 my best advice would be find an adult who can steer you in the right direction if your looking for a good gunsmith. Have you been shooting long? I would start by getting some good cleaning stuff and make sure its empty before you mess with it.

What was that about, Deadeye? You got some problem with what B525 said? What does your comment have to do with topcat's Parker restoration? For that matter, what does the little story about your 11-87 have to do with his Parker either?

A test...

And now you're going to start in on me too? Who are Stevo, Bustemall and hugh? The topic, BTW, is the poor job someone did on topcat's Parker restoration, not gunsmiths. I think that instead of spewing attitude you might want to work on your reading comprehension and your spelling.

LOL, you win, Deadeye or whoever you think you are. Have fun spewing on gunsmiths - I hope the next one you need knows what you think of him as he "fixes" your 11-87 for good.

***** ADDED 7-29-2009 *****

It seems that I've been banned from sportingclays.net. My username, SptClays, now doesn't work. When I try to log in I get a "Your account has not yet been activated." error message. It worked fine last week, before stevo/DEADEYE/sureshooter decided that I was worth hassling. Everything was fine here until I dared to disagree with DEADEYE.

It seems that this is Stevo's personal playground now. I'll see the rest of you on ShotgunWorld, which doesn't tolerate this nonsense and certainly doesn't take direction from resident morons.

If I'm wrong and this is some sort of website error, then can someone please help me out?

Deadeye, Your comments and replys on this thread gave you away as to who you are, which is Steveo. Sad no matter how hard you try your ignorance seems to take over and give you away. People like you shouldn't own computers or Guns! So go play with something else.

Choosing a gunsmith is a very personal thing, and choosing a gunsmith to restore an old gun with significant monetary and sentimental value is even more important. You now know that you needed to check out this person, and his work, very carefully and make sure that everything you wanted done was communicated in writing. I hope that you can still get some satisfaction out of the deal.

Good Comment Cly Hntr! Family Heirlooms and guns like that Parker are irreplacable and need special consideration and care in restoring, in some cases they are just best left alone. 525

I left my 31 on the roof of my car, When it fell off it was hit by a truck and smashed. Steve at Bluesteel rebuilt it better then new. I have had him build several other guns and he is an artist, reasonable and most professional. He is currently building a Martini Enfield 50/70 for me. I will continue to sent business his way.
