Hi,I'm getting interested in shooting sporting clays at a local gun club. I'm using a new Rem.1187 but am thinking strongly of buying a Ruger 20 ga. Red lable O/U. The $1500.00 and up O/U's dont fit my pocketbook. I'm afraid of some of the lower entry O/U's wont stand the 1500 or more rounds a year for long. I've been to a number of gun shops and looked at a wide variety of O/U's. I was sold on the CZ-Redhead until the master gunsmith in Kansas City recommended looking for something a little better. The gun that I choose will also be used for some bird hunting.Any suggestions are welcome. HELP in IL. Thanks, Spooky3

Well made gun. People often complain of the recoil, but none of the people I know who own them are anything less than satisfied. They are dependable and sturdy guns. If your budget in in the 1K range it is one of the best options.

The problem I see with the Ruger is that it has a automatic safety that engages every time you open the action. In registered shoots, having the safety on will cost you the target. I'm no gunsmith, but maybe that can be disengaged by a gunsmith.

Go to Wal-Mart for a Ruger. They have to order them but they only cost $1150. I've got one and it shoots great. Yes, you do have to remember to take the safty off. You just have to add a line to the check list in your mind.

I'v never owned a Ruger my self but know several guys who do and all are very satisfied. The one thing i would say is to step up to the 12 ga. They just pattern better

If you are not in a rush,do try to find the 20 g Sporting Clays version of the Red Label as the wood is better the balance is better, screw in chokes are longer and the 30" barrels will swing you through better. The same can be said for the Sporting 12g model and the ammo is cheaper generally with more options and you can always shoot 7/8 oz loads in twelve gauge. For a contact with good prices try Ed West 505-828-1724.Hey!! there is one listed on auctionarms.com right now in 20 g..Take a look!

Bill - after 4+ years, I kinda doubt that Spooky's 11-87 is still new. Good luck on making the trade, though...
