Beretta has introduced the 3901 American Series auto loaders. They are based on the same legendary auto system of the 390.

There are three models with MSRPs of: Black Synth - 750; Nice (wood) - 850; Nicer (wood) - 950

I have heard that street prices will be about 529, 629, and 729, respectively.

Question is, will they be produced with cut rate machinging and parts or to the same quality standards as those produced at the Beretta facilities in Italy? If so, they will be the finest autos in that price range for sure. And that won't bode well for Remington. Here is a link

It seems like the trend is to develop an auto or o/u in the price range of $300-$500. Anyway you look at it quality will be compromised. That is not to be interpreted as the product will be bad. My concern is who are they marketing to? If it's a youngster getting started hunting or someone who wants to try their hand at clays I have no problem, as long as they take the proper safety classes and get instructions. But if the market is all the people that just want a gun around the house, for protection or whatever then I have a problem with that. I don't think we need any "Saturday Night Specials" in shotguns as the fight against the anti-gun lobby is difficult enough. As far as Beretta they have a history of quality and I can't imagine that they would want to bastardize their reputation. Have fun and BE SAFE.

The 3901 was out about 2-3 yrs ago as a promotion. I think the way it went if memory serves was for a limited time if you bought a 682 you got the 3901 free.

I just saw a 390, 28" with synthetic stock for $529. is that a decent price? I can't find this model on the Beretta web site. Is it similar to the 391? They also had a remington model 1100 Sam Walton Special Edition for $399. A Beautiful finish but I didn't want the 26" barrell and I don't particularly want Sam's name on my gun.

I would think that for a Beretta Semi that price is awesome. The gun is not the same as the 391 series as that gun is the next generation to the 390 series.

This 3901 is based on the 390 platform which is just one of a long line of top notch Berettas in the original 300 line.

The only question is whether quality of these US made guns is to the same specs as home grown Berettas. But as the previous poster suggeted, it is doubtful that Beretta will slap there name on something inferior just to compete in the low price market.

I just read on another site that Beretta discontinued the 390 in 1999. Why would there still be new guns on the market after 6 years? Could this be some kind of spinoff or something other than the real deal?

The 390 is a discontinued model. It was replaced by the 391 series. The 391 is just the last generation of the 300 series auto platform developed by Beretta in the 70's.

The guns we are talking about are NOT 390's They are 3901s. They are only based on the same platform as the 390 line and not made with the newer technology of the 391 line.

I found a new 390 for sale at Walmart, not a 3901 or 391. That just seemed unlikely to me if the gun was discontinued 6 years ago.

Beretta made 10,000 of them in one big run and sold them to wholesalers. May still be a lot of them in a warehouse.

The Wally 390 is not a catalogue line Beretta. Robber is right, The gun was made on consignment run to major retailers in bulk. Beretta no longer manufactures a 390 series auto.
