I just bought a Remingon 1100 Mag about a month ago and discovered that it wouldn't eject 2 3/4 feild loads. Is there any way I can make this gun eject theses shells without haveing to alter and it not be able to shoot the 3 inch loads. Thanks

The Remington 1100 Magnum was never manufactured to shoot light loads. It will always eject loads containing 11/4oz and more of lead shot. If you are shooting steel shot it will always eject loads of 1oz or more of high velocity steel. If you wish to shoot light lead loads, you can have your local gunsmith to very slightly open-up the gas port, shoot the gun, if it's not enough, open it up a little more until you get flawless ejections time after time. It's most important to open the gas port ever-so-slightly each time. When completed you will be able to shoot all loads through your gun. Unfortunatly, the internal parts of the action will take a heck of a beating when shooting heavy loads due to the fact that a good deal more gas is coming through the action and slamming everything back hard. Enlarging the gas-port will also VOID any warranty with Remington. Check with your local gun-smith.......good luck....

I would replace it with a 11-87 you could get them for 600 at walmart. They don't even make barrels for your gun. Hastings makes barrels but there going to cost you more than the price of a new 11-87 plus they don't come with chokes.

Come on.....Hastings barrels do not cost in excess of $600.00. Besides, make sure you steer him clear of that junk 11-87 Supermag....it won't feed any 2.75" shells.

I read your write up on openeing the gas port. I also have the same prob with my 1100 it wont eject shells. If i open the gas port, when I am shooting heavy (Deer slugs) loads will this lessen the life of my gun? Has it been known to cause seriouse damage to the gun???

If someone purchases an automatic for 3 1/2 in. shells of the magnum variety, don't expect them to eject light loads. Appreciate what you have, which is a gun that is going to handle most 2 3/4 in. usually above 1 1/4 oz. shot. Please don't go messing with a new gun it just isn't safe and I can't imagine a reputiable gunsmith that would perform the work. Never! put a different size barrel on a gun other than the one it was made for. Enjoy what you have and save up to purchase a gun not made for the 31/2 in. shells.

Hello Duckslayer, I had a 3" 1100 Magnum 12ga and used a 2-3/4" 1100 skeet barrel when I wanted to shoot light 2-3/4" loads. It worked fine, just DO NOT shoot any 3" shells through the 2-3/4" barrel.

The only person I know who has solved the problem of 1100's ejecting light loads(down to a 3/4 oz.load) in 12g is a gentleman by the name of Libert O'Sullivan in Albuquerque,NM. His # is 505-856-9001 and I am sure he would share his adaptation with you.Be patient though as he travels overseas a lot and may take some time to get back to you.

Yes you can use a 2 3/4" barrel on a mag. gun. Read the owners manual.
