Clark County Shooting Complex—Nevada

By John Steinhorst
Page 8 of the May 2013 issue

Nevada's 2,900-acre Clark County Shooting Complex features a new, world-class sporting clays course with scenic vistas of the Las Vegas valley and nearby snow-capped mountains. Thirty shooting stations have been strategically placed, featuring a 270-degree, elevated, panoramic view with backdrops such as Mt. Charleston and the Las Vegas Strip in the background for ample photo opportunities. World-renowned course designer Marty Fischer involves subtle rolling hills developed around each shooting station, providing each with its own intimate environment. The 75-acre course offers three shooting positions at each station for a total of 90. The positions labeled in red, white, and blue indicate degrees of difficulty associated with each presentation. Shooting is designed to simulate hunting game birds, offering numerous flight presentations with variations in speed, distance, elevation, angle, and target size.

The shotgun center contains 24 trap and skeet field combinations plus a 5,443-sq.-ft. center with reception area, pro shop, shotgun storage lockers, and cafeteria. It also features 80 full-service RV sites, a clay target storage building, lighted ranges, and shade areas. The public rifle/pistol center offers 30 shooting points up to 50 yards, 15 points up to 200, 15 points up to 100, night lights, concrete shooting tables, covered shooting areas, 3,000-sq.-ft. building with a convenience store, reception area, 30-seat classroom, restrooms, and pro shop. The archery range provides covered firing points and night lighting.

The 4,400-sq.-ft. education center contains three classrooms, Nevada Department of Wildlife offices, and restrooms. It features night lighting, 100-meter archery range with 10 positions, 100-yard range with 10 positions, and 50-yard range with 20 positions. It also includes a shotgun range and two walking field courses. Clark County Shooting Complex is open for public shooting 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Wed.-Thurs. plus 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Fri.-Sun. Special events may be scheduled with equipment rental, ammo, and eye and ear protection available onsite. Sporting clays targets are $32 per 100, and gas-powered carts can be rented all day for $50, while gun rental is $20. Clark County Shooting Complex, 11357 N Decatur Blvd., Dept.
