MRC Sportsman's Club—Wisconsin
By John Steinhorst Page 6 of the February 2012 issue
Situated in north-central Wisconsin near the town of Medford, MRC Sportsman’s Club has been hosting shooters since 1991. The gun facility caters to a variety of shooting disciplines, such as sporting clays, trap, pistol, small-bore rifle, and 5-Stand. It recently expanded the use of electric traps, and the sporting clays course is now accessible to ATVs, carts, and motor vehicles if necessary. Sporting clays is the club’s main activity, with about 80 aesthetic acres for interesting and exciting course layouts. The terrain allows for a variety of targets, with many different presentations that simulate hunting. MRC also features a trap field nestled behind the clubhouse. Visitors practice with a few rounds of trap on Tuesday nights since the fields are lit for shooting after dark. The facility also offers indoor pistol shooting. During the winter months, shooters are welcome to practice with their small-bore pistols on the well-maintained range. Wednesday nights during the summer season, the club holds a weekly open shoot. Fun shoots during the summer are not competitive, but targets are sure to challenge and entertain. MRC Sportsman’s Club proudly hosts several WSCA- and NSCA-registered competitions during the shooting season. The club also offers programs for young shooters in the area. The Junior Marksman Program teaches youth to shoot and allows them a chance to compete in competitions around the state. The valuable program is open to males and females starting at the age of 12 through high school. Junior gunners under 21 receive discounted rates. The accommodating club is located in Taylor County eight miles north of Medford west of US Hwy. 13. Take the driveway that goes behind the Chelsea Conservation Club to get to the club.
